Vibe 105 W Connection qualified for the finals of the Caribbean Football Union Club Championships with a hard earned 3-2 win over Harbour View of Jamaica in the second game of a double header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella on Friday 26, 2007.

The game had barely started when Harbour View’s Kemeel Wolfe was booked for an ugly challenge on Brazilian Gefferson Goulart in the second minute.

As if in retaliation, on the very next play W Connection’s Devon Drayton was booked for a late tackle on a Harbour View player.

Both teams took a while to settle down and for first fifteen minutes they seem to be feeling out each other. W Connection were the first to have a shy at goal when in the 18th minute Goulart took a powerful shot from the right side that was blocked out by the Harbour View defence, the resulting rebound fell nicely for fellow Brazilian William Oliveira whose goal bound blast flattened teammate Andre Toussaint.

Moments later a well taken corner by Oliveira was just missed by Toussaint. Harbour View were to have it first real chance of the game, in the 24th minute when Kevin Bryan skillfully turned his man but his shot was straight at keeper Jan Michael Williams from on top of the box.
A minute later Gefferson Goulart almost scored first for Connection, but his dipping shot from 40 yards out was just tipped over bar from the alert Dwayne Miller in goal for Harbour View.

Robeet Scarlett was a thorn in the Connection right side coming down the left for Harbour View and twice in the space of three minutes he created goal scoring opportunities for his team. First in the 33rd when he found  Fabian Taylor free in the box after a good run and pinpoint cross but Taylor took to long to control and his shot was blocked by the defence.

In the 36th it was Scarlett again, his early through ball set Kevin Bryan free but William Oliveira recovered well for Connection to thwart the danger.

Harbour View were just beginning to dominate the game when a teasing cross from on the right by Gefferson Goulart resulted in a mix-up between the Harbour View’s defence and goalkeeper and left Andre Toussaint with the easy task of knocking the ball into an open net, 1-0 W Connection.

Connection fans had hardly settled down into their seats when on a corner kick in the 45th minute Robeet Scarlett was adjudged to have fouled Andre Toussaint in the area and so W Connection was awarded a penalty. Captain Earl Jean scored the resultant penalty to put Connection up 2-0 at the half.

Harbour View started the second half with much more enterprise as W Connection seemed prepared to sit an defend their two goal lead and should have pulled one goal back in the 49th minute, but Kevin Bryan headed over bar after Fabian Taylor had eluded William Oliveira.

Harbour View continued to press for a goal and almost had it in the 58th minute, but Richard Edwards shot was brilliantly save by goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams.

Against the run of play, a beautiful build-up by Connection set up Andrei Pacheco for a shot that was brilliantly saved by Harbour’s goalkeeper Dwayne Miller in the 59th.

The resultant corner saw a fierce drive from Ronaldo Viana which rocketed off the uprights and back into play. This shot seemed to revitalize the Connection outfit and they started to show glimpses of what they had learned from their just concluded tour of Brazil and they totally dominated the next 20 minutes of play.

During that period Andre Toussaint would set up captain Earl Jean for his second and Connections third in the 70th minute.

Harbour View would make two substitutions in the 74th minute. This move paid dividends because in the 82nd the normally dependable Jan Michael Williams dropped a routine take and allowed Donald Stewart the simple task of knocking the ball into an open goal for a 3-1 score line.

A goal by Harbour View in the 89th set up a nail biting final few minutes, Fabian Talyor headed in a corner to reduce the deficit to one goal, but in the end W Connection held on for the 3-2 win and earned a place in the final to face San Juan Jabloteh on Sunday.
