The Milligan College men's soccer team won in dramatic fashion Saturday, Sept. 27, at home against Union College (Barboursville, Ky.) in an overtime battle.  The Buffs took down the Bulldogs 2-1.

The Buffs scored early off of a goal from junior transfer Joel Cowan (Mt. Grace, Trinidad and Tobago) compliments of fellow junior Franklin Mbougue (Yaounde, Cameroon) to control the first half and much of the second half.  The Bulldogs answered, however, during the 85 th minute with an unassisted goal to tie the game.

The Buffs broke the tie during the first overtime when Cowan chipped in another goal, this time from senior Josh Stephens (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) to secure the victory for the Buffs.

Defensively, senior Bryan Newbold (Sylva, N.C.) kept the Buffs alive as he recorded 12 saves during the contest.

“It was a good hard battle,” commented Head Coach Adam Laney.  “It got a little scrappy be we responded by lifting the intensity.  Again, I felt our defense did a great job and they are becoming the blue collar defense we need them to be.”

The Buffs travel to Bristol, Tenn., Wednesday, Oct. 1, to take on AAC foe King College.  The game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
