The Lipscomb Bisons aren’t having any problems scoring goals.
They are, however, having some difficulties in stopping the opposing team from scoring. After losing 4-3 at Campbell Thursday night, the Bisons bounced back for a 4-3 win on two goals by freshman defender Josh Lind in the final 18 minutes at Mercer Saturday night to go 1-1 in the Atlantic Sun for the weekend.

The win is the seventh for the Bisons overall, tying their 2007 record for wins.

“We’ve got some defensive issues to work out,” said Bisons coach Charles Morrow. “Giving up seven goals in two games is not something we want to make a habit of doing. We will get that sorted out by next weekend.”

“The good thing is we are not having any problems scoring goals. There is probably not a coach in the conference that wouldn’t trade places with me. It is hard to figure out how to score than it is to figure out how to stop a team from scoring. Of the two problems we have the easier of the two to fix.”

The Bisons spotted Mercer a 1-0 lead at 2:11 when Arkenson Neckles scored his first goal, an unassisted effort.

Forward Miguel DaSilva tied the game for the Bisons at 7:43 as he kicked the ball into the left side of the net. Midfielder Angel Chairez was credited with the assist.

At 11:42 of the first half defender T.J. Williams put the Bisons ahead 2-1 as he found an opening in the right side of net from approximately 25 yards out. DaSilva assisted on the goal.

In the second half Mercer took control on a pair of goals by Bolade Ogunmade at 60:10 and 61:55. One was a header into the right side of the net off a cross pass. His second goal came from the right corner. Ian Cameron assisted on both goals.

Lind tied the game at 3-3 at 72:29 taking a shot from the left side of the box that went low into the left side of the net. Williams assisted on the play.

At 77:37 Lind scored what proved to be the game-winning goal off of a deflection. Chairez picked up his second assist on the play.

They were the first two goals of the season for Lind. Williams also scored his first goal as well.

“It is amazing to me that we have the top two scorers in the conference because so many different guys score for us,” said Morrow. “We have plenty of guys who have scored and have proven they are goal scorers.

“Josh getting two goals at the end was great. One by Josh takes a funny bounce and goes in. The second one was sent in by Angel and it just bounced off of Josh into the net.”

The Bisons are 7-6-2, 3-1-1 in the A-Sun. Mercer is 1-8-4, 1-3-2 in the conference.
