The University of New Haven men's soccer team defeated the hosting Stonehill College Skyhawks 3-1 Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Chargers improve to 4-12-0 overall and 3-9-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Skyhawks fall to 4-9-2 overall and 1-9-1 in conference play.

With just two minutes and 27 seconds off the clock the Chargers opened scoring with a goal from freshman Steven Gennuso. Gennuso scored from six-yards out off a pass from Marco Matute who beat the defense to the baseline.

The Skyhawks evened the score in the 27th minute when a direct kick eventually ended up slipping by UNH goalkeeper Jonathan Creem. Creem tallied four saves in the first period, including three in the first 17 minutes.

Before halftime, at the 40:43 mark, the Chargers scored their second of the game and the eventual game winner. Jelani Joslyn was on the winning end of a through ball from P.J. Horn. UNH put the game-sealing goal on the board in the 60th minute when J.J. Comeau scored his first career goal on a shot from 18 yards out.

Creem added six second-half saves to bring his afternoon total to 10. The Skyhawks took 19 shots, scoring just once, while the Chargers attempted just nine shots and scored three times. Gennuso took three shots on goal to lead the Chargers and four other Chargers attempted shots on goal.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, October 25 at 1 p.m. when they host the College of St. Rose in their final NE-10 game of the season. Saturday's game will be senior day and the Chargers will recognize the team's four seniors.
