The No. 11/12 University of South Florida men’s soccer team will honor their seniors on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m., as they take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights for the last regular season game of 2008.
The six seniors that will be honored prior to the start of the game at the USF Soccer Stadium will be Yohance Marshall, Kevon Neaves, Jordan Seabrook, Jason Devenish, Joris Claessens and Gonzalo Ramella.
This is the seventh meeting all-time between the teams. The Bulls trail in the series 1-4-1. The last meeting took place in 2007 when USF fell to Rutgers 1-3 in New Jersey.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Attinella currently has a 0.38 goals against average on the year, which ranks in the top five nationally. His .889 saves percentage also ranks in the top 10 nationally. The Safety Harbor, Fla. native leads the BIG EAST in shutouts in league play with six.
Rutgers went 1-1 last week following a 2-1 defeat at New Jersey Institute of Technology on Oct. 22 and then earning a 2-1 win over No. 14/13 Louisville at home on Oct. 25. Freshmen Robbie McLarney and Gaetano Panuccio each scored a goal against Louisville. The Scarlet Knights will finish up their last regular season game against St. John’s on Nov. 3.
The Bulls are currently in second place with a 6-3-1record in the BIG EAST Red Division and 10-4-2 overall. With DePaul’s loss to Louisville, USF secures a first round bye in the conference tournament, while the Scarlet Knights are fighting for their postseason lives with a 6-7-3 overall record and are 3-4-2 record in the Red Division.
