Former Portsmouth goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has this morning moved to deny reports that have appeared in the media over the last few days suggesting that the Trinidad and Tobago international is considering retiring this summer, following his release by the South Coast club:

"I am not retiring, I don't know where this report has come from. I have got several offers from clubs and will be discussing them with my agent in the next few weeks.

"Obviously I was disappointed to be released by Portsmouth, but I still feel fit and well and have a hunger for the game.

"I believe that I am still good enough to play at the highest level and I think my performances for Portsmouth this season showed that."

Shaka was the regular first choice goalkeepr under Harry Redknapp during the first half of the season and made a number of telling contributions but he unexpectedly lost his place to first Greek international Kostas Chalkias, then to young Jamie Ashdown when new manager Velimir Zajec took over.

Shaka made seventeen appearances for Portsmouth this season and has made over 400 club appearances throughout his career. He has also represented his country on six occasions.
