Goalkeeper Clayton Ince was expected to complete his move to Coventry City today, making him Micky Adams's first new signing of the summer.
The 32-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international has turned his back on six years at Crewe where he claimed he was 'disrespected and demotivated' by manager Dario Gradi.
Ince, who City fans may recall put in outstanding performances against the Sky Blues last season, joins the club on a free transfer and will sign a two-year deal.
"I am looking forward to a new challenge at Coventry which is a club that really wants to do something next year, so it is good to be moving here," said the player who was expected to hook up with his new team-mates at Ryton this morning where the squad reported back for pre-season training.
One player who was not expected to be present was Steve Staunton who is still weighing up his options.
Ince added: "It is a good feeling to be the club's first signing of the new season and it means the manager has confidence in me.
"It is good to be wanted and good to know that my performances in the last couple of years have been appreciated.
"I am disappointed to be leaving Crewe because the fans have been great to me and always backed me when I have been out of the side.
"They always made me feel at home and my only disappointment is that I didn't get that encouragement from the manager."
