Stern John was on the wrong-end of a 3-0 scoreline as Trinidad and Tobago lost in Mexico in their second World Cup qualifying game of the week.

The City striker has been with his country for the past ten days, for their 5-1 win over St Kitts, when he scored twice and also for the defeat in Mexico.

Peter Reid says he will assess Stern on his return on Friday and make a decision on how he looks in training as to whether he plays against Leicester on Saturday.

Fifa President Sepp Blatter had suggested Coventry had threatened to drop the striker if he went on international duty with Trinidad and Tobago but Reid was keen to quash those rumours.

"If Stern’s fit enough to play, he plays because I have never ever said to any player don’t go away on international duty. And I wouldn’t say it," he said.

"I think it’s an honour for the player and I think it’s an honour for the football club. I was an international and I loved going away. So hopefully when he comes back he’s right and if he is, he plays."

Claus Jorgensen did not feature for the Faroe Islands in their 2-0 defeat against the Republic of Ireland after picking up a rib injury in their 2-2 draw with Cyprus at the weekend.

Fellow City teammate Graham Barrett also took no part in the game which saw former Sky Blues striker Robbie Keane break Niall Quinn’s record and become Ireland’s all-time top scorer.
