Senior national women’s football team striker, Kennya “Yaya” Cordner and her IL Sandviken team captured the league crown in the Norwegian Toppserien in emphatic style hammering Klepp 8-0 in the 17th and penultimate round of competition on Sunday.

With the win, Sandviken improved to an unassailable 49 points from 17 matches on the ten-team table, four ahead of Rosenborg with one round of matches left to play.

Sandviken led 2-0 at the half-time interval and added six more items in the second-half in front their home crowd with six of the goals being scored from headers.

Maria Brochmann was the star of the day at the host Stemmemyren Ground, in Bergen with goals in the 23rd, 34th, 52nd, 68th, and 85th while Ingrid Marie Spord (64th and 87th), and Guro Bergsvand (78th) added the others.

Despite being an unused substitute Cordner who recently netted for the T&T senior women’s team in T&T's 1-1 friendly draw at home against Panama in the second of two matches, was delighted with the win.

Writing on her Facebook page Cordner of Speyside in Tobago stated: "God, if it wasn’t for you, I don’t know if I would have been here today (so) thankful for your mercies and the victory and for being a part of IL Sandviken history-wining 2021 (Cup). Just a little girl from Tobago in Norway living the dream."

Cordner, 32, and her clubmates who will close out the season on Saturday against third-placed LSK Kvinner (37 points) also made amends for their 2-1 loss against rivals Valerenga in the NM Cup final on October 31.

In the semfinals on October 3, Sandviken blanked LSK Kvinner 2-0 while Valerenga trashed Rosenborg 4-0 a day earlier.
