Trinidad and Tobago international Avery John has joined Leeds United on trial.

The 31-year-old left back, a member of the Trinidad squad at last summer's World Cup final in Germany, was last with New England Revolution and is now at Thorp Arch on a trial basis.

Avery has had a stint with South African outfit Orlando Pirates and also spent five years in Ireland with Bohemians, Shelbourne and Longford Town.

The defender has won over 50 caps for Trinidad, but missed the big clash against England last summer after being sent off against Sweden in the opening group game in Germany.

The Point Fortin-born player, who started his career in America's A-League under the guidance of former LIverpool star Steve Nicol before heading to South Africa, will be hoping to impress the United management team.
