Jason Scotland will fly to Germany for surgery this week in a bid to speed up his recovery from a long-term muscle problem.

Scotland was left at home when Swansea City flew to Sweden yesterday for a seven-day pre-season training camp.

Instead, last season's 29-goal top-scorer will undergo treatment on his stomach at the Liberty Stadium before going under the knife.

"Jason will have the operation on July 11 in Germany," said Swansea boss Roberto Martinez.

"For the surgery he needs that is the place to go, so we are sending him there. Like us, other clubs are using the facility out there because it is top class.

"Jason's operation needs to be spot-on and that's why we're sending him to the best."

Scotland was not the only one left behind as Swansea headed for Scandinavia.

Dennis Lawrence also remains on these shores because of a knee problem, while Angel Rangel is in Swansea recovering from last week's groin operation in London.

The trio miss out on a week of tough fitness work at altitude as well as Swansea's opening friendly of the season, against local side Ostersund on Wednesday.

"There are no distractions in the area we're going to," Martinez said.

"There's sunlight 24 hours a day so it doesn't matter what time it is, there's always the chance to work.

"We will be doing three to four sessions every 24 hours.

"It's a chance for us to focus on looking after the body and to set the standards for the rest of the campaign."
