FL: Sancho, Latapy & AntonHad an interview with former T&T defender Brent Sancho and he spoke briefly about his ambition to represent T&T if given the chance. He also touched on his current position and his experience with T&T Pro League team North East Stars.
Brent Sancho is Rochester Rhinos new 2009 assistant coach and will also take the field when needed. Apart from his agent pointing him in the wrong direction. Brent had offers to return to Europe but the Rhinos offer was way to good to pass up.

"I had the chance to sign with Ross County for an additional year but I took the wrong advice from an agent. Tried again with Wrexham but it didn’t work out because of situations out of my control. I have had interest from clubs in the lower leagues of Britain, but the chance to play and coach at a club like Rochester was too good to pass up", added Brent.

Brent told us coaching was really an eye opener and moving back to Trinidad to play with North East Stars was a no brainer.

"I got a taste of coaching last year at North East Stars in a couple of training sessions. It truly opens your eyes to things you never paid attention to as a player, but my transition has been made very smooth by the players and an extremely hard working head coach who leaves no stone unturned".

"I love challenges so it was a no brainer for me when I got the call from Kevin Jeffrey and Clint Marcelle. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with North East Stars. From a playing perspective I felt I did extremely well. The level of play hasn’t changed much. The professionalism can still improve somewhat but that’s a job for the players, coaches and stake holders to work on. The league is making steps in the right direction, however and I urge more fans to go out and support the boys".

When asked of his opinion about Trinidad and Tobago chances to get to South Africa and how he felt about new coach and former teammate Russell Latapy, Brent said:

"Russell as you know is one of the best footballers to wear the national colors and if he can transform the magic on the pitch to coaching Trinidad and Tobago football will be in good hands. Russell needs the support of all the players, staff, front office and football fans".

"We are not in the best situation but I still believe we can qualify".

Brent said that despite not being in contact with the TTFF he is still ready and able to play for T&T if given the chance.

"A player is always ready and able to play for his or her country, providing the situation is a healthy one. I have no doubt in my ability as a player. The day I start having doubts, is the day I hang up my boots".

"I would like to leave a positive mark in society both on and off the football pitch".

And finally the USL First Division Team of the Week (May 15 2009) defender wishes the Under 20 team all the best in Egypt. He had a quick message for them.

"Believe in yourselves and your team mates. It’s a great chance to leave an imprint on world football. (Carpe diem)".
