Ipswich Town manager Jewell says that he will be looking to bring in loan players from next week if he feels they can improve his current squad.

But Edwards is expected to be at right back when the Blues take on Sheffield United at Portman Road tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) looking for their first double of the season.

“I can recall watching Carlos play as a wing back for Wrexham some while ago and he has done the same job for Trinidad and Tobago,” said Jewell.

“He’s our best option for that position at the moment and he is a good athlete.

“We are working on him to improve his defensive work, but he’s doing okay at the moment.

“I have watched Jaime Peters play right back, and he has done well, but it is not a natural position for him.”

And talking of players coming in and out once the loan system is up and working again next week, Jewell went on: “I want to try and improve the squad as it is not the biggest in terms of experience. Although I won’t do it for the sake of it.

“We have some god young players here and it will do them good perhaps to send them on loan to somewhere not so comfortable to toughen themselves up.

“They will then appreciate what they have got and hopefully strive even harder to get into our first team.

“There is a lot to be said for hungry young players.”

Apart from Alan Quinn, who underwent an operation yesterday on a groin injury that has plagued him all season and is set to be out for four more weeks, and keeper Brian Murphy (broken ankle) Jewell has a full squad to select from.

He confirmed that new signing Andy Drury will be in his thoughts for his debut and that the 27-year-old signed from Luton on Monday has looked good in training.
