Walsall goalkeeper Clayton Ince today ruled out imminent retirement and set his sights on staying at Bescot after this season.

Ince will be 35 by the start of next season, but he has pledged to carry on playing for the time being.

And he has confirmed he is ready commit his future to Saddlers, although he is ready to put contract talks on hold until the end of the League Two promotion race.

“I think I’ll give myself as long as I possibly can and at the moment I just want to carry on playing,” said the Trinidad and Tobago international.

“As long as I feel I can perform to a good level and give what the team need from a goalkeeper then I will continue playing.

“I don’t want to put a definite figure or a timescale on it because you can’t predict the future. I will stop when my body gives out on me or when I feel I can no longer perform at the kind of level I’ve been used to.”

Ince’s contract at Bescot expires in the summer but he is keen to extend his stay, although he is happy to put his own future on the back burner for now.

He said. “I’m not just here to get Walsall promoted and then leave, I’d like to stick around and try to give the supporters something else to enjoy next season. What happens next is up to the management and we can talk about new dealsin the summer.”
