Ince says he’ll be back in T&T campaign

Trinidad Guardian

Goalkeeper Clayton Ince has denied reports that he tendered his resignation to team manager Bruce Aanensen following his exclusion from the senior national team that beat Panama 2-0 in their fourth round 2006 World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Speaking on Monday, Ince explained that he had, in fact, expressed a need for some time away from the hectic schedule of national duty to treat with pressing personal issues.
Among these issues is a recurring back problem which flared up during the team’s five-day camp ahead of Saturday’s game and was one of the reasons listed by TTFF advisor Jack Warner and coach Leo Beenhakker for his failure to be in the starting eleven on Saturday.
Ince confessed to being disappointed at not being in the starting team but said he has not given up on rejoining the team.
The T&TFF yesterday confirmed that they had not received any resignation correspondence from Ince.
The T&T team, including Ince’s replacement, Durance Williams, arrived in Mexico at around 1 am (midnight T&T time) yesterday.
They travelled from Port-of-Spain via Miami and Dallas on Monday, ahead of today’s qualifier against Mexico.
They are based at the Sheraton Hotel in Monterrey where the match will be played.

I have one question, if Ince now claiming he needs time away from the team to heal his injury, why de hell he is vex when Leo say warm ah bench against Panama.  Also he metioned pressing personal issues (popular exucse), I believe him when he say he did not retire but on the other hand I still feel he walked out on the team(temporary) because he warm ah bench.  I hope Jack have a great game in goal against Mexico so he could up end as first choice and let Claton Imps warm de bench when he officially fit with no personal problems.

Confusion reigns over Ince’s ‘resignation’

By WALTER ALIBEY

THERE are varying reports surrounding the alleged resignation of TT goalkeeper Clayton Ince from national team duties, following his omission from Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Panama at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

And now questions are being asked about the credibility of the decision to leave the lanky custodian out of the starting line-up for the crucial World Cup qualifying match with the Soca Warriors facing an uphill task in their next World Cup qualifier today against CONCACAF giants Mexico in Monterrey.

Today’s match will be televised live on the National Carnival Commission TV, and also on Radio 105 FM from the kick off time at 9 pm. According to Austin Jack Warner, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) Special Advisor, Ince tendered his resignation from the national team.

It was alleged Ince handed in his uniform and withdrew his passport after he was left out of the recent Panama clash. But Newsday learnt however, Ince who did not travel with the team to Mexico, has not in fact resigned and instead asked for a break from national duty because of an injured back. Ince has denied handing in his resignation.

But in another twist, a top football administrator said the situation is the beginning of the unfolding of stability within the team and staff. The goalkeeper’s grouse was that he could have played in the Panama match despite the minor injury.

Now the administrator is questioning whether the team’s physician Dr Terrance Babwah may have had any part in declaring Ince unfit for the game. This administrator, who asked not to be named, is of the opinion that such a decision should have come from the team’s doctor and physiotherapist.

Newsday was told the decision to leave Ince out of the team was made to avoid him putting too much pressure on the injury. Reports are that Ince will also miss a journey to the United Kingdom for the Unity Cup game against Jamaica.

Technical director Lincoln Phillips explained that the player was in fact advised to put whatever he wants to do in writing before meeting with officials of the football federation. Phillips, a former national goalkeeper expressed the view that it was sad such a situation happened following the team’s impressive performance against the Panamanians.

A cautious Phillips said he did not want to comment on something he did not know about, but confirmed speaking to Ince who informed him (Phillips) of his intentions. The City of Monterrey hovers approximately 3,000 feet above sea level, which is nowhere close to the 12,000 feet in Mexico City, but the Warriors are still expected to be affected by the high altitude.

I have not retired insists Crewe keeper Ince
The Sentinel

Crewe keeper Clayton Ince has denied reports he has retired from international football, writes Michael Baggaley. Ince, who is out of contract at Crewe, is likely to begin talks on a two-year offer at the Alexandra Stadium next week.

In the mean-time, he has rubbished reports from Trinidad that he resigned from the international squad after being left out of Saturday's World Cup qualifying win against Panama in Port of Spain. Ince said: "The situation is I had some personal problems that I had to sort out and I decided I should step away and take some time to myself before making any decision. I never said I would retire.

"Being left out was never a problem. Every player feels disappointed to be left out of the team when they have been training hard, but only 11 players can be picked.

"It is part of being a professional. It is up to the manager who he picks and you have to accept that."

Ince, who has 61 caps for his country, was replaced by Kelvin Jack on Saturday and Jack is set to keep his place for tonight's World Cup qualifier in Mexico.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi would lose little sleep over the prospect of the keeper dropping out of the international reckoning. Ince impressed after coming back into the Crewe team at the end of last season, but incurred Gradi's wrath after he was unavailable for the Nottingham Forest home game in April following a Trinidad and Tobago game against Costa Rica.
