Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones speaks out on his future with the Bluebirds
By Alex Bywater (Wales Online)

Cardiff City goal hero Kenwyne Jones has spoken out over his future with the Bluebirds.

And the former Sunderland and Southampton striker has insisted he's putting talk of a new contract to one side for now as he concentrates on pushing Russell Slade's men towards the play-offs.

WalesOnline revealed on Tuesday that Cardiff's hierarchy are keen to pen Jones to a fresh deal, albeit on a reduced wage, but the Trinidadian, who scored Cardiff's late winner in the 3-2 win over Brentford, said: “Right now club promotion is everyone's primary focus.

“I'm really just enjoying my time here at Cardiff with Russell Slade and the lads.”

Jones, who joined Cardiff from Stoke in January 2014 in a swap deal that saw Peter Odemwingie move in the opposite direction, is easily the highest paid player at the club with a basic pay-packet of £35,000 a week.

As was shown by his winner against the Bees, he remains Slade's best available goalscorer and is clearly enjoying teaming up with new strike partner Tony Watt.

Cardiff are keen to sign Charlton loanee Watt on a permanent deal to continue what has proved a promising partnership with Jones.

“With Tony Watt now in the mix it's been a good experience working day by day to get the job done,” Jones added.

“The fans continue to be fantastic and of course that support drives the team to want to finish well.”

Slade and Cardiff certainly had Jones to thank on Tuesday after he rescued the Bluebirds from the near embarrassment of throwing away yet another two-goal lead.

First-half efforts from Jones and Watt had put Slade's men in control before Brentford hit back after the interval.

For the third consecutive home game it looked as if Cardiff would have to settle for a point before Jones struck late on.

His cool 94th minute strike secured a 3-2 victory and three vital home points.

“In the second-half Brentford came out with a vengeance and we needed to hold the fort when it mattered most,” Jones added.

“They applied the pressure but the boys never lost faith. Fabio presented an excellent opportunity down the left in those last few minutes and I was able to connect and find the net.”

After victory over Brentford, Cardiff face a short turnaround before they make the trip to Birmingham on Friday evening where Slade will hope Jones and Watt continue what is already proving to be a fruitful partnership.

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade desperate to hold on to Kenywne Jones but admits decision might be out of his hands
By Steve Tucker (Wales Online)

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade insists he is determined to keep star striker Kenwyne Jones, but admits the decision could well be out of his hands.

Jones made it five goals for the season with a brace against Brentford on Tuesday night including a last gasp winner after the Bluebirds had been pegged back to 2-2 once more.

Slade labelled the 31-year-old as vital to Cardiff’s hopes of keeping up their Championship play-off push.

But Jones’ contract in the Welsh capital ends next summer, meaning he is free to talk to other clubs when the January transfer window opens.

Cardiff want to keep Jones, but are set to offer the frontman, who is the club’s biggest earner with a deal worth £35,000 a week, a new contract on reduced terms.

The move comes as owner Vincent Tan cuts costs at the club and Slade admitted that despite Jones being a very difficult player to replace, financial concerns could well play a part.

“I can’t comment really on his new contract. That’s an internal matter to be negotiated with the players we wish to keep,” said Slade, whose side travel to Birmingham tomorrow night.

“I leave that to the club and hope we resolve it. Kenwyne’s a big part of what we do here. He’s playing regularly.

“To get a target man is not easy. He gives us a focal point. He’s good in the air and effective in both boxes. Those attributes are not easy to come by."

Slade added: “We do hope to hold on to our better players.

“But there’s the football decision and then there’s the financial decision. On the football side he was doing everything on Tuesday night, but we want more of it of course.

“He’s very important to us. But he’s doing everything possible to show us what we need from him.

“He’s giving a great example of what we need to do to get in the top six.”

Doubts were raised over Jones’ desire to remain at Cardiff when, despite netting a winner late on, he appeared to not even celebrate the strike at all.

Slade dismissed such suggestions though, insisting Jones had been delighted to find the net against Brentford and that he was still totally committed to the Bluebirds.

“I would not read anything into that at all,” added Slade.

“What I’ve been told is that Kenwyne has said his priority and focus is on promotion and not individual contracts.

“That’s fantastic coming from a player whose contract is up in the summer.

“He was pleased as punch he got the goals. I can assure you of that.

“Maybe he was more relieved more than anything. Maybe he was just cool about it. People react in different ways.

“He was pleased he got us over the line.”
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

How u figure villa bro?

Their strikers are Jordan Ayew, Agbonlahor, Scott Sinclair, Gestede, and Kozak.

They're desperate to avoid the drop and need a presence up front to complement Ayew, Agbonlahor, and Sinclair

Gestede and Kozak are their only target men strikers.

Gestede has 4 goals in 16 appearances for Villa

Kozak hasn't moved from off the bench

The other forwards are hobbits

The main thing that would/could scare them off is KJ's price tag.  Same issue with all other teams.

He also has "history".  But just like when Bournemouth took him on loan last season.....teams looking for help in the short term could well work something out.

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones to end his Bluebirds career

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones to end his Bluebirds career and leave club in January
By Steve Tucker (Wales Online)

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is set to leave the Bluebirds in January for a bumper pay-day abroad, WalesOnline can reveal.

The 31-year-old marksman will head out on loan from the Welsh capital with a club in Dubai, Qatar, China or America’s MLS the likely destination.

The deal will become permanent in the summer when Jones’ current contract comes to an end at Cardiff.

The Bluebirds hierarchy have decided to get the Trinidad & Tobago international off the wage bill after Jones and his representatives decided against signing a new contract in the Welsh capital which would have seen the frontman’s wages slashed.

Jones is currently the highest paid player at the club, on a basic salary of £35,000 a week. This figure is seen as unsustainable as Bluebirds’ owner Vincent Tan has called on manager Russell Slade to cut his playing budget over the past year.

Jones joined the Bluebirds in January 2014 from Stoke in a deal which saw Peter Odemwingie move in the opposite direction. Jones has made 67 appearances for Cardiff, firing 19 goals in the process.

He was the Bluebirds’ top-scorer last season. As Slade’s men try to cling onto their hope of a Championship play-off place this term, Jones has scored five so far, his latest coming as he fired a brace in the win over Brentford earlier this month.

The transfer window will now reopen from this Saturday and Jones’ representatives are thought to already be in negotiations with a clutch of overseas’s clubs.

Slade himself is set to make the signing of Tony Watt permanent when the striker’s current loan deal from Charlton comes to an end on January 16.

Jones’ departure will also see the Bluebirds on the look out for a new target man. It looks likely they will try to bring in a striker from the Premier League on loan if possible to fill the big boots left by Jones.

Money talks and I cant blame Jones, he is not getting younger.

Would love to see him in MLS but I doubt they could make money from clubs in Dubai and China.

Kenwyne Jones failed to win the hearts of Cardiff City fans but finding the right replacement will define play-off hopes
By Steve Tucker (Wales Online)

So Kenwyne Jones looks set to leave Cardiff City in January, but does the Bluebirds’ star striker take his side’s Championship play-off hopes with him?

The loss of Jones, of course, is a blow in many ways. The departure of a man of that stature would be a loss for any side.

But Jones’ time at Cardiff has always seemed a strange one in many ways. Since his arrival from Stoke in January 2014, the 31-year-old may have won the minds of many Cardiff City supporters, but rarely their hearts.

The capital club has always been the same when it comes to its heroes. The Cardiff legends always seem blood and thunder types, the 110 per-centers, those with socks round their ankles and blood trickling from their noses. Jones' laid back style always seemed designed to garner heckles rather than praise.

Jones is hardly a finesse player, he remains a battering ram in many ways, but if his charms were sometimes hidden to the Cardiff-faithful, his statistics at the Welsh club could not lie.

He was Cardiff’s top scorer last season and he remains for many the best striker at the club, capable of terrorising any Championship defence.

WalesOnline columnist Nathan Blake has always maintained that those at the club have always failed to ‘love’ Jones enough and you have to say that stretches right across the fan base too.

But it wold be wrong to say Jones takes the Bluebirds’ play-off hopes with him. Let's be honest, Slade and his men have been doing a good enough job of derailing their promotion push of late with the Trinidad & Tobago striker still in their midst.

But what remains crucial now for Slade is that the right replacement is found for Jones in the January transfer window because, make no mistake, the man to step in for Jones is not currently in the Bluebirds squad.

Alex Revell may be back from his loan spell at Wigan, but despite opportunities, the striker has proved not effective enough to lead the Cardiff line at Championship level. Federicio Macheda and Idriss Saadi are other options but both have much to prove for different reasons.

The Bluebirds are going to need to bring someone in to partner Tony Watt, who now looks like he will be signed permanently and handed massive responsibility by Slade for the second half of the season. The hunt needs to be to find the man to complement Watt and to forge an excellent partnership.

It seems likely that search will take the Bluebirds to the Premier League with perhaps a loan signing until the end of the season.

Can the Bluebirds achieve it? Why not? They have done it before. Back in January 2013, then-manager Malky Mackay brought in Fraizer Campbell from Sunderland and his seven goals in the latter half of the campaign helped push the Bluebirds to the Championship title.

Jones (at his best) will be missed by Cardiff but what they need now is the right replacement in the January window. Finding that man might just be the biggest test Slade has faced since taking the job in the first place.
The Conquering Lion of Judah shall break every chain.

Kenwyne Jones: Cardiff striker 'in talks' with foreign club
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/35205546

By Dafydd Pritchard
BBC Wales Sport

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is in transfer talks with a foreign club, manager Russell Slade has revealed. Jones, 31, is out of contract at the end of the season and is one of the Bluebirds' highest earners. It is understood Cardiff are unlikely to demand a transfer fee and, if they do, it is expected to be nominal. "At this stage all I can tell you is that he's in dialogue with another football club abroad," Slade told the club's website.

Cardiff opened negotiations with Jones about a new contract in September, with Slade reiterating in November that he wanted the Trinidadian to stay. The 6ft 2in forward joined Cardiff in January 2014 as part of a swap deal that saw Peter Odemwingie move the other way to Stoke City.
He was Cardiff's top scorer last season despite spending the final six weeks of the campaign on loan at Bournemouth, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

Jones was left out of the squad for Saturday's home match with Blackburn, which the home side won following Joe Mason's second-half goal.

Ok. Thanks for the heads up, as some still hoping that somehow KJ could find wiggle room to show up.

There seems to be a li'l twist on how KJ is leaving Cardiff.
Get the impression that he has to satisfy the contract with a loan deal, if he leaves now and later (seemingly summer) he would be free to sign wherever.
Not sure if the loan enterprise and the final destination are the same. Good luck KJ.

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade turns his attention to replacing Kenwyne Jones

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade turns his attention to replacing Kenwyne Jones after Blackburn win
By Steve Tucker (Wales Online)

Cardiff City boss Russell Slade saw his side earn a vital win over Blackburn, but admitted his attentions have turned to replacing striker Kenwyne Jones.

As WalesOnline revealed recently Jones is leaving the club and is in talks with a foreign club, thought to be one in Dubai.

Last season’s top scorer, Jones will be a big loss for Cardiff, but his replacement against Rovers, Joe Mason, got the winner that moves the Bluebirds back to within four points of the Championship play-off places.

Mason might be the club’s top-scorer with six now, but Slade said a new player was needed in the now-open transfer window to partner Tony Watt whose loan deal from Charlton should be made permanent this month too.

“Kenwyne is in dialogue with a club abroad and that is likely to be concluded shortly,” said Slade.

“I’ve no idea about a fee. You will have to speak to the chairman. It’s a financial decision because he is on a huge wage.

“When Kenwyne is on the team-sheet the opposition see that as something that needs to be dealt with. He’s a real threat, particularly in the air.

“We did not have the threat against Blackburn and we need to bring that threat back.

“We need the option of having a target man. With Kenwyne going a big striker would be a necessity.”

As for bringing players in, Slade has targeted at least three fresh faces, adding: “I would like to think it will be a busy few weeks.

“We’ve targeted the players we would like, we are hoping to bring them in however tight financially it might be.

“I hope there is some money from the Kenwyne deal of course.”

On the pitch against Paul Lambert’s Blackburn things were rarely pretty with both teams struggling to create chances on a poor playing surface at Cardiff City Stadium.

Slade said he was pleased with how his men stuck to their task and how they had seen out the game after Mason grabbed what proved to be the winner just before the hour mark.

The Cardiff boss urged his men to now keep the play-off push going through the second-half of the campaign.

“We probably have played better than that and not won recently,” added Slade.

“Sometimes it’s not about the most complete performance.

“The game was flat in the first period, but you have to take into consideration how difficult it was on that surface to move the ball quickly.

“It was difficult to get any intensity or tempo. For both teams, not just for us.

“That slowed the intensity of the whole afternoon. What was pleasing was that despite the busy schedule, we came out in the second period and really got on the front foot."

Slade continued: “We got a goal and could have wrapped it up with a Tony Watt one-on-one. That would have been nice.

“I was pleased with the way we managed the game at the end too because we have surrendered a couple of leads before when we have been in control.

“But I’m delighted with the clean-sheet. We have won at home - we are difficult to beat at home. That’s important to us. We are four points off the play-offs too now.

“I summed it up by saying the half marathon is over, we are into the second half of the marathon now.

“There are no trophies at the half-way stage, there are no medals, but we are in striking distance of the top teams and that is the most important thing now.”

Sven-Goran Eriksson wants to bring Cardiff striker Kenwyne Jones to Shanghai SIPG
By Sami Mokbel (Daily Mail)

Cardiff striker Kenwyne Jones is a target for Sven-Goran Eriksson at Shanghai SIPG.

Initial overtures have been made to the former Stoke striker and a deal is expected to gather pace in the next few days.

Eriksson wants to take Jones on an initial loan with a view to a permanent switch.

The Trinidad and Tobago frontman has played regularly for the Bluebirds this season; scoring five goals in 20 appearances.

But the lure of huge riches in China could prove to good a proposition for Jones to turn down this month. Likewise, Cardiff are not against offloading Jones’ salary off their wage bill.

There has been huge investment into the Chinese Super League in recent months and there is a desire to land a number of player from Europe to raise the division’s profile.

Indeed, Sportsmail revealed last month how Shanghai were targeting Wayne Rooney in a deal that would net the Manchester United striker £75 million over three years.
