TTFA gets $6.8m for World Cup qualifying campaign
By Jelani Beckles (T&T Newsday)

THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has received a cheque worth $6.8 million towards preparing the Soca Warriors for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Ministry of Sport and Community Development made a commitment to the team in November that they would receive US $2 million over a two-year period. After the first payment, another one million is expected to be distributed in 2026.

On January 2, the TTFA received the first payment.

A Sport Company of TT media release said, "The Honourable Minister of Sport and Community Development Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, deputy permanent secretary Beverly Reid-Samuel and head of the sport development unit at SporTT Justin Latapy-George presented a $6.8 million TT cheque to the TTFA president Kieron Edwards to support the men’s national football team 2024 to 2025 (year one) journey to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup, hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the USA."

The Soca Warriors will resume the World Cup qualification campaign against St Kitts and Nevis and Costa Rica in June 2025.

"Let’s rally behind our team as they aim for glory on the world stage," the release said.

I heard Rowley not going up for re-election. Best decision he has made. Don't do a Joe Biden.

Can anyone say if this $2M USD is comparable to gov't money given to previous WC campaigns?

I recognize that as the cheap shot with which it was intended  :).

Without de purported "swindling" what quantum should the government have been delivering?

And how does that amount compare to the prior government's commitment amount for the 2014 campaign?

The notion that KCR is a lame duck is fanciful (as asserted by his parliamentary nemesis). What's for sure though, is our goose is cooked --- maybe overly cooked.

Whoever is coming to boil de "new pot" better walk with plenty condiments and supplementary ingredients because right now the flame 🔥 is too high and a WC budget allocation is prospectively the least of our worries.

Moreover, unlike Biden, he is not definitely mentally compromised. Whatever his deficiencies, they will have to be sourced elsewhere. All now he is deploying his mental faculties to project his legacy and interests beyond his departure.

That's Act 2, Scene 2 (having otherwise delivered us Dwight Yorke to the Road to 2026 in the first Act of the drama.)
