The Fut­sal As­so­ci­a­tion of T&T (FATT) is set to host its first Na­tion­al Women's Fut­sal Tour­na­ment on Ju­ly 7 at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na in Tacarigua.

Ten teams will do bat­tle for the brag­ging rights, prepa­ra­tion ahead of this sea­son and a whop­ping $10,000 in cash prizes.

FATT pres­i­dent Ge­of­frey Ed­wards said in a re­lease yes­ter­day the tour­na­ment was con­cep­tu­alised from the coun­try's his­toric rep­re­sen­ta­tion at the third Sum­mer Youth Olympics last Oc­to­ber in Buenos Aires, Ar­genti­na at which the team per­formed with cred­it but was oust­ed at the group stage.

"Af­ter a his­toric rep­re­sen­ta­tion at the 3rd Sum­mer Youth Olympics, last Oc­to­ber in Buenos Aires, Ar­genti­na, FATT de­cid­ed to make fe­male in­clu­siv­i­ty one of five pil­lars in its Strate­gic Plan or 2019 to 2024. In our ef­fort to dri­ve par­tic­i­pa­tion amongst the fe­male foot­balling pop­u­la­tion to this ex­cit­ing vari­ant, we de­cid­ed to ex­plore many mech­a­nisms, be­gin­ning with the host­ing of a na­tion­al com­pe­ti­tion,” Ed­wards said.

"There are many more plans to en­sure this pil­lar is strength­ened and up­holds the val­ues of the house of lo­cal fut­sal."

The event is open for fe­males of all ages and the win­ner will walk away with a cheque for $7,000 and a tro­phy, and the run­ner-up $3,000. There will al­so be prizes for the 'Most Valu­able Play­er" (MVP), "Most Goals" and "Best Goal Keep­er". It will be en­tire­ly free to the pub­lic.

Reg­is­tra­tion is un­der­way at a cost of $1,000 per team, and each club, acad­e­my and school will be al­lowed to reg­is­ter a max­i­mum of two teams. It will be gov­erned strict­ly by FI­FA’s fut­sal rules and reg­u­la­tions and will be of­fi­ci­at­ed by fut­sal cer­ti­fied ref­er­ees.
