The biggest futsal fiesta for 2009 kicks off 9am on Saturday at the UWI- SPEC grounds, St Augustine with 24 teams battling for the $10,000 first prize and SW Futsal Invitational Challenge Trophy.
The event entitled SW Futsal Invitational is being organised by the SW Touring Team and will feature an exhibition game between the Boom Champions 94.1 and the national futsal team. There will also be an Axe Ball Juggling Competition, Dixee Shootout Competition and FIFA Interactive World Cup Zone where gamers can do battle in the virtual aspect of the game.
Football and futsal enthusiasts are encouraged to come out for 10 hours of non-stop action and support their favourite teams in the winner takes all tournament. Tickets are available on the day of the event. General admission is $30.00 and tertiary students with identification pay $20.00.
The event will feature 5-a-side teams from corporate companies, entertainment, media, tertiary institutions, armed forces, community and club teams.
The one-day futsal extravaganza will be an event to remember with live entertainment, a food court and well stocked bar.
Many of today’s football superstars have credited futsal as being important in the development of their technical ability. Brazilians, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Robinho are just a few who have made their mark at the futsal level and have gone on to dazzle the world with their sublime skills.
Futsal is a variation of football played indoors on a had surface delimited by lines. The rules of futsal are very different from football and promote creativity, improvisation and technique.
