A TRINIDAD and Tobago Futsal team, coached by Clayton Morris left for Guyana yesterday to contest the Caribbean Football Union Futsal qualifying tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

TT will go into Group “B” action against Puerto Rico and Suriname while hosts Guyana will take on Haiti and Suriname. The top two teams will move on to the CONCACAF Final Futsal Championship in Guatemala from June 2-8 from which the top three countries will progress to the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Championship in Brazil in October.

The TTFF held a tournament last month from which a final squad of players were selected for training under the eyes of Morris and Hutson Charles.

The TT team was crowned 2004 champion in the inaugural Caribbean tournament held at the University of the West Indies Sports Facility in St Augustine.

This time around Morris is hoping for similar results with some of the experienced players from 2004 also in the current squad.

They include captain Kevin Graham, vice-captain Sterling O’Brien, Anthony Small, Cordell Greenidge, Jerwyn Balthazar, Marvin Lee, Wendell Douglas and Colin Joseph.

The rest of the squad is goalkeeper Jason Bowen, Javon Skeete, Dale Simon and Clint Ramond.

Ricardo Bennett and Ronald St Louis are the two reserves.

“I expect us to do well because the guys know how to play the game and hopefully we can go there and get it together as a unit and put the chances away. We will not take the other teams lightly but we also know our capabilities and we will try to focus on that and come away with the kind of results we are looking for,” Morris said.
