Guatemala edges T&T 2-1 in LA
Los Angeles, the city of Angels could provide no redemption for the Trinidad and Tobago football squad. This time they lost to Guatemala 1-2 and are winless since August. This game was moved due to the Guatemalan tragedy earlier this year. T&T were playing without Dwight Yorke who missed the game due to club commitments and Russell Latapy who was suspended. Starting in the place of Yorke was Stern John. Russell Latapy was replaced by David Nahkid as captain. The Guatemalans opened the scoring in the 27th minute. Under pressure from David Nahkid, Guatemalan Machon crossed to Giron who dummied defender Dexter Francis and passed to Rodas who scored. However, three minutes later Angus Eve became the second T&T player to score in the second round. He collected a pass from Jerren Nixon and fired a shot that was deflected off a Guatemalan defender and pass the goal keeper. T&T created few chances in the second half. However, the Guatemalan's had one thing that T&T did not: Cohesion. That advantage worked to their favor when Rodas worked a one-two with Leon. Leon's shot hit the cross bar and Rodas knocked in the rebound between T&T defenders. Trinidad and Tobago's next game is versus Costa Rica. It will be the final game of the year and for some time as the technical staff will try to figure out what went wrong. |
