VIBE CT 105 W. Connection's veteran St Lucian striker Earl Jean has been named overall Most Valuable Player, following last month's FCB Cup football tournament which his team won.

Yesterday, the T&T Pro League presented prizes to the competition's outstanding performers at FCB's head office on Abercombry Street, Port of Spain.

There, Dexter Skeene, the CEO of the T&T Pro League, thanked FCB for their partnership with his organisation over the last few years and commended the local bank for their commitment towards long-term development. Skeene said that many corporate sponsors are prepared only to back elite athletes or to jump aboard when there is the opportunity to gain maximum mileage. FCB, he said, recognised the importance of long-term youth development.

Skeene stated that with the country on the verge of World Cup qualification, these are exciting time in T&T football. The Pro league he said, had paid their part in the process and had produced players such as Anton Pierre, Gary Glasgow, Cyd Gray, Atiba Charles and Densil Theobald, who have all played some part in the World Cup qualifying campaign.

Skeene said the Pro League provided an opportunity for players to concentrate solely on playing football and so they were doing their part in the development process as well.

"Gone are the days when players have to ask for leave for national training. While World Cup comes every year, the football development takes pace every day, " he said.

First Citizens Bank CEO Larry Howai also praised the role of local players and clubs in football development and asked players to be conscious of the serious role they play in the development of the wider society.

"As you continue your journey in sport, don't forget that to the young, you will be seen as a role model and in some instance, a hero. Your example will draw them in and help them become fully skilled an inspire them to be the best throughout their careers."
