Defending League Champions National Quarries North East Stars are off to a shaky start in their defence of their League title.

One of the main reasons is the unavailability of last season’s leading goal scorer Jerren Nixon.

Nixon has been out with a knee injury, that saw him missing North East Stars last three games and he was not fully match fit in the few games he has played—the former Switzerland based striker had to undergo a minor surgery on his knee and was advised to rest for two months.

Nevertheless, the star striker is hoping to be back sooner rather than later.

The Sangre Grande Stars currently lie 2nd on the standings, behind runaway leaders W Connection and Coach Jimmy Mc Clean’s men were knocked out of the Pro Bowl tournament at the quarterfinal stage.

Nixon guided the boys from Sangre Grande to their first ever league title last season scoring 37 goals, and there was a lot of expectation coming into the 2005 season, with Nixon leading the charge once again.

However, thus far, that wish has not materialized—but the talented striker—is still optimistic, he told ‘ttproleague.com’, “Yes I am disappointed at being out at this stage, but it is something that had to be done, as it did not make sense playing the entire season in pain.”

“I am hoping to be back as soon as possible, I will be definitely doing my best to help the team regain the league title, we are not in a bad position at this stage—and I am just hoping the guys will be able to stay in touch with the better teams in the league.”
