Former W Connection player Leslie “Tiger” Fitzpatrick says the recent signings of Canadian players Bradley Beaumont and Maleik De Freitas by the “Savonetta Boys” during the January transfer window can benefit both the players and the TT Pro League club.

Beaumont, a 22-year-old defender, and De Freitas, a 19-year-old utility attacking player, were recent participants of the Toronto Skills FC academy, in which Fitzpatrick, a former Trinidad and Tobago international is a co-founder alongside Jake Doodnath and Dietmar Mertel.

“I immediately thought about W Connection as a landing spot for them that would be mutually beneficial to both the club and the players,” Fitzpatrick was quoted as saying in a press release by W Connection.

“They (Beaumont and De Freitas) complement W Connection's style of play and the coaching philosophy of the staff and being with a club that has such a high standard of play and success can only augur well for their development.

“The fact that W Connection also has a successful tradition in the CONCACAF Champions League is also very appealing and both players are highly motivated to help W Connection get back to the main bracket of the tournament once again and to contribute an even more successful run in the edition of the tournament this year.”

W Connection, the defending Digicel Pro League champions, are currently second on the 2014-2015 league table, behind rivals Central FC, who they will accompany to the 2015 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship, which is expected to begin in March and serves as the qualifier tournament to the CONCACAF Champions League.

W Connection technical director/head coach Stuart Charles-Fevrier, according to the press release, highlighted that Fitzpatrick’s role in acquiring Beaumont and De Freitas, is a testament to the excellent relationship the club has with its past players.

Beamount, a graduate from St Bonaventure University, is described as cerebral defender who is strong in the air and capable of playing in the midfield if needed. Beamount was an unused substitute in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Defence Force that placed Connection within three points of Central.

De Fraitas, meanwhile, is credited with being a skilled attacking player, comfortable using both feet, and can play any of the attacking positions on the field based on the coaches preferred formation.

Fitzpatrick noted that De Freitas was recently in Germany, where coaches liked his skill and technical ability but wanted him to build up his strength and physical components of his game to transition to playing with professional adults.
