Trinidad and Tobago and San Juan Jabloteh defender Nigel Daniel has been recovering reasonably well since his knee operation over one month ago, but according to the player he is not too eager to rush back into competitive action.

Daniel underwent surgery at the St Augustine Private Hospital to repair torn ligaments in his right knee.

He suffered the injury awkwardly on the artificial turf at the Marvin Lee Stadium, against Joe Public which was solely blamed on improper boots used on the surface.

Daniel told ‘ttporleague.com’, “I have been doing therapy for the past four weeks and I’m feeling much better than I was one month ago.”

However the Jabloteh player is not too keen on a speedy comeback adding, “This type of injury is a very serious one. A lot of players who have forced a quick comeback ended up with an even worse injury and I am not going to take that risk. I am going to take it one step at a time,” Daniel said.

According to Daniel, doctors predict that he would recover within the next three weeks to a month.

Daniel’s injury forced him out of selection in T&T’s CONCACAF Gold Cup squad back in June.

“It was a disaster for me personally missing out on the Gold Cup. Just to know that I have worked hard for something like that and then in a short space of time I lost the opportunity,” Daniel said emotionally.

Giving his thoughts on T&T’s Gold Cup performance Daniel was pleased with the national team’s showing, “We had a new team of players. We didn’t have our World Cup players and I know many people expected a lot from the guys, but in the space of time we had to prepare with the less experienced players, I think we did well,” he said.

“The Gold Cup is gone and that’s in the past. My focus now is taking things easy and working back to full fitness because I want to return to the national team,” said the Jabloteh player.

Commenting on his player’s recovery, head Coach Terry Fenwick of Jabloteh said, “Nigel has been running and looking in good form.” He is hopeful of a quick recovery by his player adding, “Hopefully by next week he would be solidly kicking the ball around and getting in the mix with the other players.”
