Otis Roberts was named the Most Valuable Under-18 Player by the St Ann’s Rangers Football Club during its Annual Youth Award Ceremony at St Mary’s College on Sunday afternoon.

In other categories, Qualanson Archibald copped the award for Most Goals, while Josiah Alleyne and Sheldon Parris were named Most Disciplined and Most Improved respectively.

Xavier Rampaul dominated the Under-16 Division, walking away with trophies for Most Valuable Player and Most Goals with Lemuel Scott (Most Disciplined) and Jules Young (Most Improved) taking the other awards.

The event was attended by Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Anil Roberts, TT Pro League CEO Dexter Skeene and National Football Association Secretary Rudy Roberts.

During his address Skeene advised the young footballers to take their academics seriously, pointing out that it would help them become more thoughtful and effective players.

"I was reading an article just this week where a coach was saying that he always prefers to work with disciplined and intelligent men,” he said.

“The only way you can become intelligent is by exercising your mind. That is the importance of doing your school work so that when you go out on to the field you can process situations and make decisions on the spot because you would have practised it while you were doing your reading and your studying.”
