Trinidad and Tobago Men’s U-20 team off to Guyana for training camp

The team, under head coach Brian Williams will play two practice matches against the Guyana National Senior Team on Friday and Sunday at a venue to be determined.

These two games will serve as part of preparations for the upcoming Caribbean Football Union Final Round of World Cup qualification for the 2017 FIFA Under 20 World Cup in Curacao next month.

T&T faces Cuba in their opening match of the Caribbean Football Union Final Round on October 22nd in Curacao.

T&T, the CFU defending champions, are grouped with previous runners up Haiti, Cuba and St Lucia in Group B which will be contested at the Ergilio Hato.

Following their opening game with Cuba, T&T then faces St Lucia on October 24th and Haiti on October 26th.

Group A comprises of hosts Curacao, Bermuda, St Kitts/Nevis and Antigua/Barbuda.

he top two teams will advance to the semi finals as well as gain automatic passage to the CONCACAF Final round which will be played in Costa Rica in February. The semi-finals will be played on October 28th and the final and third place match will take place on October 30th. The top five teams from the CFU Final round will advance to the CONCACAF stage.

Williams, sees the upcoming games against the Guyanese outfit as beneficial to the team’s current preparations, saying “It’s always good to have international warm up matches. We haven’t had international games since the last tournament and I think these two games will serve us well going into Curacao. We also have a couple more international outings coming up but these two games against the Guyana senior team will be a good test for us at this stage of our preparations.

“This camp will also be a good opportunity for us to re-focus because there have been a lot of distractions with players also focusing on their secondary schools and clubs. So now this will be good timing for them to concentrate on national duty and the tournament ahead,” Williams said.
