Club who emerged the league champions in Diego Martin....THE Diego Martin Regional Community’s League came to a grand conclusion last Saturday, drawing a large crowd, at the Carenage Recreational Facility, with a play-off between Big Four finalists, Players’ Club and Scorpion FC.

Players Club won 3-1, after being down 0-1at half time. However, it was a double by the League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Tyrone Charles and a cleverly-taken goal by Kerron Simon that ensured victory.

Sponsored by the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, the play-off also featured a prize giving ceremony, which included several sporting personalities, including vice-chairman of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation, Lyndon George, and national player, Keston Williams and Ex-Trinidad and Tobago Under 17 Coach and current RBTT School’s Football League Co-ordinator, Dion La Foucade, who was on hand to distribute prizes.

Speaking at the prize giving, La Foucade hailed the efforts of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation and the Carenage community for staging a successful league competition.

He noted that the initiative should be given more support by both the private sector and the Government and mentioned a long list of sporting stars which the Carenage community has produced including Ron La Forest, Angus Eve, Dean Pacheco, Richard Theodore and Dexter Lee.

He noted that the league is responsible for giving youths an outlet for expression and stressed that the powers that be should take notice of events which also bring the community together.

“It is sporting events such as this that communities such as Carenage needs to stem idleness and criminal activities among youths,” La Foucade said.

The league’s committee members include Angus Eve (President and Chief Co-ordinator of the League), Tony Richardson, Hollis Arthur, Lester Balbosa and Kenneth St Louis.

League champions Players’ Club took home a purse of $10,000, while runners up Scorpion and third place Family Stories collected $2,000 and $1,000 respectively.

Knockout Winners were Scorpions and in second was Defence Force. Individual awards were given for Most Disciplined Team — West End United, Most Improved Player — Johan Peltier, Most Goals — Fergus Julien and Tyron Charles — Most Valuable Player (MVP).
