Yet another double from league leading goalscorer Teba McKnight, kept Club Sando in the hunt for a second major trophy this season, when the South-based secured a 4-2 away win over its toughest test, Malabar FC, in the blink/bmobile National Super League, yesterday.

The match was played at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Arima, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the encounter. Former national player hayden Tinto opened for Malabar in the second minute of the match, before Club Sando responded with two goals from McKnight (19th) and Ryan Fredericks (45th) to make it 2-1 at half time.

Malabar found itself back in the fixture with an equalizing goal from Kevon Woodley on the hour-mark, but his effort was cancelled out less than 10 minutes later by Kerron Smith, before McKnight sealed the win with his second in added time. The match produced as many goals as it did the first time the two teams met in league competition. The first leg ended 3-3.

Club Sando’s victory kept it in the lead by a point over Guaya, which was even more convincing in its 5-0 away win over Stokely Vale, in Tobago. Former TT Pro League midfielder Kevin Jagdeosingh scored a second-half hat-trick, while Jody Allsop continued to produce for Guaya with a first half brace.

Malabar’s loss saw it drop off the pace to five points from the top, while 1976 FC Phoenix, the fourth placed team also suffered a loss (3-1) to Real Maracas, which moved into fifth with its win.

In another big fixture on the day, defending champion WASA remained second from bottom following a 2-1 loss to Joe Public. After taking a 25th minute lead from Fabian Garcia, WASA conceded two second half goals from Ricardo Bennett and Arvid Applewhite to allow an inconsistent 2011 treble winning club, Joe Public to its fifth win in 14 matches.

Ten regular round of matches remain to be played in the league, while there is just one outstanding fixture between Bethel United and FC Santa Rosa.
