DARREN MITCHELL netted a pair as 1976 FC Phoenix stormed from a 2-0 deficit to spank Harlem Strikers 4-2 in their rescheduled first-round bmobile National Super League knockout tournament at Canaan, Bon Accord on Tuesday.

Harlem were in their glee in the first-half, as they went ahead through Jimmy Anderson, in the 13th and 34th minutes.

But Phoenix, spurned on by their home supporters, responded with a strike from Mitchell, on the half-time break, while Kevin Keith netted the equaliser in the 47th.

Shelton Williams gave Phoenix the go-ahead goal in the 69th and Mitchell sealed the win with two minutes left on the clock.

Phoenix will have little time for rest though, as they will make the inter-island trek to face TTEC in the quarter-final round on Friday, from 4 pm, at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre.

Economy Strikers held off a rally from Harvard to prevail 3-2 in a rescheduled quarter-final contest at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Tunapuna.

Kern Cummings put Economy in front after eight minutes while Kevin Jagdeosingh doubled the tally in the 32nd.

But Glen Walker replied with a double for Harvard, in the 33rd and 44th minutes, to even up the scores at half-time.

Jagdeosingh will have the last laugh though, as he found the back of the net in the 55th to put Economy into the last four.

The semi-finals will be contested on August 21, with a double-header at the Queen’s Park Oval. Economy will face Defence Force at 6 pm while, two hours later, Queen’s Park will face the winner of TTEC and Phoenix.

The final is scheduled to take place on August 28.

On August 23, there will also be a knock-out play-off for the fifth and sixth placed teams, who will both advance to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) FA Trophy competition.

Harvard will meet Joe Public and Sando will oppose the loser of the TTEC-Phoenix encounter.
