Tobago’s youth football was put in a great light yesterday as both their boys and girls teams were on song in whipping their opponents as matches in the Big-16 of the Atlantic Primary Schools football league kicked off at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

In the boys’ play, Bon Accord Government hammered Manzanilla Government by a whopping 9-0 margin, while in the girls’ clash Pentecostal Light and Life got the better of Port-of-Spain school St Barb’s Government 4-0.

The first clash to take place on the day saw Pentecostal Light and Life getting on the scoresheet in the 14th minute. Shevica Persaud gave the home fans their first moment of excitement when she rattled the opponents’ net after the home team dominated the early play. Before the half-time whistle they stretched their lead to 3-0.

Tobago’s delight would continue in the second game, as Bon Accord Government, which has won the Tobago title ten out of the 13 times they have contested, made an impressive start. They dominated their clash against Manzanilla which just had no answer to the bigger, stronger players from the Tobago.

Both Pentecostal Light and Life and Bon Accord will now move on to the quarterfinals where they await the outcome of Monday’s matches which  decide who their opponents will be.

Tobago's Bon Accord Government Primary School and Pentecostal Light and Life booked their place in the Atlantic Primary Schools Football League quarter-finals following dominant performances in their respective Round of 16 matches at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago on Thursday.

In the Boys' competition, Bon Accord beat Manzanilla Government Primary 9-0, while in the Girls Division, Pentecostal Light and Life whipped Port of Spain school St Barb's Government 4-0.

In Thursday's first match, Pentecostal Light and Life got on the scoresheets in the 14th minute through Shevica Persaud's effort and before the half-time whistle, which came at 25 minutes, the home team were comfortably ahead 3-0.

Tian Leith got the second in the 16th and Akiela Duncan made it 3-0 with a strike two minutes later. Ariel Jack capped off the win with a second half strike to give the home team a favorable result.

Tobago's delight would continue in the second game as Bon Accord dominated their clash against Manzanilla, who just had no answer to the bigger, stronger players from the Sister Isle. Double strikes by Emmanual Cox (12th and 34th minutes), Jakiah Leacock (18th and 36th minutes) and Jabari Francis (30th and 33rd minutes) eventually put the game out of Manzanilla's reach.

Both Pentecostal Light and Life and Bon Accord will now move on to the last eight, where they await their opponents who will be determined on Monday when the tournament resumes.
