Ten-time national primary school football champions Bon Accord Government is into the semifinals of the 2012 Atlantic Primary Schools football tournament, after trouncing VOS Government 5-1 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, yesterday.

Bon Accord, the bigger stronger team from the sister isle, dominated the clash against the Gasparillo boys, and in the end they walked away comfortable winners.

After a quiet first half in which Javon Williams gave them a 1-0 lead, Bon Accord sprung into action, slamming a further four goals past the Southerners.

Jabari Francis who has played very consistently this season was on the mark twice and there were single strikes from Jokiah Leacock and Emmanual Cox. When Bon Accord reached 4-0, Nkosi James give VOS something to celebrate when he found the back of the net.

In the first game, Tobago also came out winners in the girls’ quarterfinals. Pentecostal Life and Light defeated a spirited St Mary’s Children Anglican on penalty kicks. This contest was an even match-up and the teams went into the half deadlocked.

During the second period of play, both sides came close to taking the lead but the goalkeepers stood firm. At the end of the regulation 50 minutes, both teams were still tied at 0-0 and a further 20-minute extra time failed to separate them.

It was then down to penalty kicks and Pentecostal scored with three tries, while St Mary’s missed three attempts. Pentecostal Life and Light will now await their opponents for the semifinals.

Tobago's Bon Accord Government Primary School and Pentecostal Light and Life booked their place in the Atlantic Primary Schools Football League quarter-finals following dominant performances in their respective Round of 16 matches at Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago on Thursday.

In the Boys' competition, Bon Accord beat Manzanilla Government Primary 9-0, while in the Girls Division, Pentecostal Light and Life whipped Port of Spain school St Barb's Government 4-0.

In Thursday's first match, Pentecostal Light and Life got on the scoresheets in the 14th minute through Shevica Persaud's effort and before the half-time whistle, which came at 25 minutes, the home team were comfortably ahead 3-0.

Tian Leith got the second in the 16th and Akiela Duncan made it 3-0 with a strike two minutes later. Ariel Jack capped off the win with a second half strike to give the home team a favorable result.

Tobago's delight would continue in the second game as Bon Accord dominated their clash against Manzanilla, who just had no answer to the bigger, stronger players from the Sister Isle. Double strikes by Emmanual Cox (12th and 34th minutes), Jakiah Leacock (18th and 36th minutes) and Jabari Francis (30th and 33rd minutes) eventually put the game out of Manzanilla's reach.

Both Pentecostal Light and Life and Bon Accord will now move on to the last eight, where they await their opponents who will be determined on Monday when the tournament resumes.
