Eight-time national primary school’s football champion, Arima Boys RC came to Port-of-Spain and conquered Nelson Street Boys RC at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, yesterday.

In what was more of a carnival-like mood, Arima Boys ran out easy winners by a 2-0 margin.

Despite being pressed by Nelson Street Boys in the first half, Arima Boys RC’s players maintained their composure and played like a well oiled unit, connecting passes all over the pitch.

They were rewarded for their patience when Dorian Sampson netted in the 17th minute. Despite Nelson Street playing well and fighting on, the Eastern champion enhanced its lead in the 21st minute with a goal from Kareem Tegman. At the interval, Arima Boys sat pretty with a two-goal cushion.

In the second session, the Nelson Street boys went at their counterparts and although they hit the post and created two goal-scoring chances, Tyreek York put the icing on the cake when he hit a powerful low drive which the Nelson Street custodian failed to hold on to.

This sent the 300-plus students and supporters into a frenzy as the band played on. Arima Boys RC not only gave Nelson Street a lesson on the field, but also in terms of support as the host team could muster only 15 supporters.

Arima Boys RC will now meet Mayaro RC in one of the semifinals of the Under-15 Boys at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, on Thursday.

Mayaro got into the semifinal by defeating Penal RC 4-1 in a penalty shoot out after a 2-2 draw at regulation time and overtime.
