Tobago champion Montgomery Government moved into the final round of the Atlantic National Primary Schools Football League when they defeated Sangre Grande Government at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port-of-Spain, yesterday morning.

The Tobagonians could have found themselves behind after five minutes when Sangre Grande’s wizard Isaiah Williams dribbled past three defenders before being brought down in the penalty area.

Referee Inskip Carrington had no alternative but to point to the penalty spot. But, Sangre Grande muffed the chance, playing the ball wide of the post. One minute later, Tyrell Collins put the Tobago champions ahead, much to the delight of the small group of Tobago supporters.

At the half-time whistle Montgomery Gov't led 1-0.

In the second session, the play went from end to end with both teams creating chances but it was Tyrel Collins who struck again to put his team two goals ahead in the 35th minutes.

Sangre Grande would not lie down and Williams pulled one back to give the North Eastern champions some hope. However, Tyrell Collins ended any jubilation the supporters had when he clinically finshed for his third in the 50th minute.

Montgomery will now meet the winner of the clash between Arima Boys’ RC and Mayaro RC which was postponed due to flooding. The match will now be played on the practice field at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima at 10 am today.

The eight-time champion, Arima Boys RC, will aim continue its climb to glory today.

The finals of all age groups will now be contested on Tuesday at he Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, beginning at 9.15 am. The venue had to be changed to facilitate Fifa Inspectors who will be coming to Trinidad to view and inspect the field at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The national women’s senior team will be playing Ecuador on December 2 for the Women’s World Cup second intercontinental playoff match.
