League champions Debe Secondary (South) and St Francois Girls College (North) remained undefeated, and on top of the standings in the BGTT/ First Citizens Secondary Schools’ Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship, after Sunday’s matches.
Debe, which has won the zonal title on six consecutive occasions, secured yet another convincing win, after dropping Point Fortin East 3-0 at the newly refurbished Debe High School Ground.
National youth players, Kayla Taylor and Patrice Vincent, who represented T&T at the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup in 2010, were on target. Taylor opened the scoring, before captain Vincent sealed another three points with a brace.
The win put Debe on a perfect nine points from three matches, after opening the season with a 4-1 win over Fyzabad Secondary, followed by a 2-0 triumph over Vessigny Secondary, last week. Vessigny, however, bounced back to record its first victory in the campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Pleasantville.
In the North, 2011 Coca-Cola Trinidad InterCol finalist and dominant North Zone outfit St Francois Girls College edged Providence 1-0, thanks to a goal from Simone Emmanuel, which was her third in two matches. St Francois again leads the charge in the North, with four consecutive victories.
Its first win came via a default 3-0 win over no-show Malick Secondary, followed by a 5-1 whipping of Tranquility. In the third match, St Francois showed no mercy with an easy 4-0 win over Holy Name Convent, last Thursday, before Providence managed to limit the champions’ potent attack to one goal.
Action in East saw Arima North also secure its fourth consecutive victory, a 2-0 result over last year’s “Big Four” champion El Dorado East, while St Augustine similary took its fourth win on the trot with a 6-0 demolition of St George’s College.
The latter win, in which Chelsea Gibbs, Celeste Thomas and Shannon Sergus bagged a double each, saw St Augustine scored an incredible 31 goals from only four matches. Almost half of the tally came on the opening day when St Augustine slammed Bishops East 14-0.
It was no surprise then that Toco added to Bishops’ woes with a 5-0 win in Sunday’s other East Zone match. Arima North and St Augustine will meet in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash, in St Augustine, on Thursday. There was no action in Tobago due to the unavailability of venues.
