National youth player Tineisha Cobham put on an inspired performance as she slotted home an impressive eight goals to lead league runner-up Vessigny Secondary to the perfect start in its defence of the title with a 15-0 drubbing of Senior Division leader Point Fortin West, in the BGTT/First Citizens Girls Secondary Schools Football League InterCol South Zone quarterfinal, on Thursday.

After leading 8-0 at the half, Cobham continued to impress alongside Javannah Moreno and national teammate Khadidra Debisette, who completed a hat-trick and a brace, respectively. Aviva Vesprey and Tleasha Webb got the other goals for Vessigny.

The win put Vessigny into the semifinal, where it is scheduled to meet the winner of Fyzabad’s clash with Pleasantville, which was carded to play last evening. Debe, the runaway champions of South was on a bye, and will go up against Point Fortin East in the semifinal. Point Fortin East came up against another Senior Division team, Siparia East, and emerged easy 3-1 winners.

In the North/East playoffs, Providence, which was in the running for the zonal league crown until the last match day took an expected easy win over Senior Division’s Success Laventille. Standout players Chelcy Ralph and Jordan Van

Reeken recorded a hat-trick each, with Kelly-Ann Arrindell adding to the rout with one goal. The comfortable win put Providence into Sunday’s quarterfinal stage, where it will meet Toco Secondary. The other finalist from last year’s National InterCol, Roxborough Secondary, faced early elimination from the competition after suffering an embarrassing 6-0 defeat to Scarborough Secondary.
