Augustus Wooter and Selby BrowneThe Veteran Footballers Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago (VFFOTT) closed its activities for the year, with Vice President Selby Browne greeting Coach Augustus Wooter on his historic return to Trinidad and Tobago.

Mr. Browne said: It was Coach Wooter of Surinam who singlehandedly played the pivotal role to excite the St. Benedicts College football era and Trinidad and Tobago football during the sixties.

That glorious era was a direct result of the initiative of Dom Basil Mathews, Principal of St. Benedicts College, who invited several young men from Point Fortin and surrounding areas to attend the College based on their football prowess. The beneficiaries of that glorious era of Trinidad and Tobago’s football went on to represent the Colleges Football League, South Trinidad and the Trinidad and Tobago National Team.

Dom Basil Mathews a one of two Principals who used the resources of their educational institution to develop football in Trinidad and Tobago during the past century, the other was Mr. Hamilton Holder who brought several young men to the Progressive Educational Institute in Port of Spain, those youngsters went on to form the nucleus of the Malvern Sports Club in the early sixties, then the Port of Spain League Team, North Trinidad and the Trinidad and Tobago National Team.
