VESSIGNY Secondary, who find themselves as surprise leaders in the South Zone of the 2004 BG T&T Secondary Schools Football league, will be looking to increase their advantage when they tackle a struggling Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive unit this afternoon at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.
Vessigny began their campaign on a bright note with successive 1-0 triumphs over Mayaro Composite and Princes Town Senior Comprehensive, respectively, before going under to Moruga Composite by a similar score line last Wednesday.

But they displayed true grit and determination to regain their winning ways with a 2-0 shutout of Fyzabad Composite on Saturday on their home turf at Mahaica Oval.

In that fixture, Keil Williams put the home side ahead in the 31st minute when he scored what was his second item of the season.

Four minutes into the second half (49th), Fyzabad were penalised for a handled ball in the area and Karrym Balthazar stepped up to put his perfectly-directed spot kick well out of the reach of Fyzabad's despairing goalkeeper, to make it 2-0 and ensure that his team collected all three points.

They now lead the standings with nine points, one more than defending champions Naparima College and two ahead of third-place Moruga, who have seven points to their credit.

In other matches in the South Zone today: Naparima are away to bottom-of-the-table Fyzabad, where anything other than full points will be a huge disappointment for the champs; Moruga, who are at home to Mayaro, will be looking to continue their good run; while fourth-place St Benedict's have a tough away assignment against the ever-dangerous Princes Town.
