St Mary’s needed kicks from the penalty spot to oust Presentation (San Fernando) 5-3, after both teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation and extra-time in yesterday’s RBTT National Intercol quarter-final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, yesterday.

The “Saints”, aspiring to be the first Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Senior Division squad to win the prestigious title, broke the deadlock courtesy striker Hakeem King in the 42nd minute but captain Akeem Marshall equalised for the South Zonal Intercol runners-up in first-half stoppage time.

Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 captain Leston Paul missed a golden chance to give the Saints the win in regulation time but his right-footed effort crashed off the crossbar, after he got a feed by Renaldo Garcia in the 90th. Paul’s World Cup teammate Sean De Silva put St Mary’s back in front in the second minute of extra-time when he played a neat one-two with King before blasting his right-footer past an advancing Pres goalkeeper Terrence Ramsaroop.

The lead only lasted five minutes as Marshall’s throw from the left flank was met by Anslym Edmunds whose header was scuffed by St Mary’s goalie Matthew Jardim leaving Jamal Clarence with the simple task of tapping the ball into the empty net.

Renetor Martin only had himself to blame for not giving the combative Pres the win when, in the 105th, he collected a square pass from national Under- 17’s Akeem Adams and, with Jardim at sea, skied his right-footer overbar. In the shootout, captain Veer Lakhan-Joseph, De Silva, King, Dillon Kirton and Paul successfully converted their efforts for the Saints while Ramsaroop, Arvid Applewhite and Keon Francois responded for Pres, with a reluctant Marshall hitting Pres’ fourth try straight at Jardim.

St Augustine edged Malick 2-1 to advance to the semi-final on goals by Kareem Paul in the 5th minute and Mark Alibey 20th. Nicholas Solomon scored n the 39th for Malick. In sister isle Tobago, El Dorado ousted Scarborough 2-1.
