North Zone Round up - Matchday 5

QRC form continues, Trinity still looking for win: Trinity 0 - 2 QRC

Despite the inclement weather and late start to the match, QRC triumphed over Trinity College at the Moka Grounds in Maraval.

Akil Morris struck twice for the 'Royalians'  who ran out 2-0 winners over Trinity.

Despite the victory, QRC slip to 3rd place in North Zone, behind St Anthony's on goal difference while Trinity remain in 6th spot.

Tigers demolish Woodbrook: Woodbrook 0 - 8 St Anthony's

St Anthony's College was simply too much for Woodbrook when they put eight unanswered goals past them at the St. James Barracks.

Cordel Cato picked up a hat-trick and he was joined on the scoreboard by Mikael Walters, Andel Francois, Dwight Ceballo, Naseef Karmbullah and Reshard Allen.

The result puts Tigers in 2nd spot while Woodbrook remain bottom of the group on goal difference.

Stoppage time strike earn Compre draw: St Mary's 2 - 2 Mucurapo.

Mucurapo's losing streak ended on Wednesday thanks to a late Jasimar Ashers free kick against St Mary's at CIC Grounds. The 2-2 draw, played under wet conditions, was a fair result after an entertaining 90 minutes in which Mucurapo came from 2 goals down to clinch a point.

A swift St Mary's counter-attack saw Renaldo Garcia opened the scoring for the home team in the 12th minute after he collected a pass from Akhil Noel and slipped away from his marker before releasing a powerful shot on goal. Dwayne Thomas in the Mucurapo goal, got both hands to the ball but still couldn't keep it out and watched helplessly from the ground as the ball slowly crossed the goal line after his attempt to stop it.

CIC was the stronger team for large periods of the first half and had a couple more good chances to score. Despite this however the game remained 1-0 heading into the halftime interval. A much better Compre team emerged after the break but CIC scored next. Chad Appoo swung in a perfect corner and Christian Briggs made no mistake as he headed home beautifully to give his team the 2-0 lead.

Unluckily for Briggs, he would also gift Mucurapo with their opening goal when he scored an own-goal in the 72nd minute. Mucurapo continued to fight for the equalizer, but always had to be wary of the St Mary's counter-attacks. Their persistence paid off however deep in stoppage time when Compre captain and deadball specialist, Jasimer Ashers, stepped up to take a free kick from the left, some distance away from goal and at the time it appeared to be quite harmless.

However Ashers, with the last kick of the game, unleashed a blistering effort on goal which fizzled between the players, attackers and defenders alike, before rocketing past a helpless Raheem Belgrave in the CIC goal. CIC and Mucurapo remain in 4th and 5th spot respectively after this latest result.

San Juan slump to 3rd in the East Zone with 8 points while Grande remain in 5th spot on 3 points.

Trinity East heap more misery onto Arima: Arima 0 - 1 Trinity East.

Joel Smith's lone strike for visitors, Trinity, on Wednesday proved to be enough against an Arima team still seeking their first victory of a disappointing 2009 season so far.

Arima remain cemented to the bottom of the East Zone table with just 1 point from their opening 5 games while Trinity surge into 2nd spot with the victory with 9 points.

San Juan and El Dorado clash on Saturday 19th September in what is always a huge matchup in the East. 'Caps' rampant: Carapichaima 10 - 1 Waterloo

Waterloo's season went from bad to worse on Wednesday after suffering a 10-1 defeat at the hands of Carapichaima.

Shekel Dennis' got a consolation effort for the losers but it was probably a very long 90 minutes for him and his teammates with Anton Gill and Michael Renaud both scoring hat-tricks for the victors.

Nathan Juman struck twice as well with Shaquill Holder and Denzil Gill rounding off the scoring for Carapichaima. It comes as no surprise that Carapichaima make their way to the top of the Central Zone with this result, tied on 6 points with Marabella but having the superior goal difference.

Waterloo are yet to get off the mark for 2009 and remain in bottom spot in Central with 0 points.

Late goal earn Pres victory: Presentation 2 - 1 Gasparillo

Siparia slip at home: Siparia 0 - 2 St Benedict's

Despite a good effort, newly promoted Siparia went down by 2-0 to a visiting St Benedict's team on Wednesday.

Siparia, sitting in the bottom of the table in South, are still searching for their first points of the season but can take heart from the improvement in their team performance.

The result moves St Benedict's from 4th to 2nd place in the South Zone with 7 points, overtaking their rivals Presentation and Shiva Boys.

Vessigny take all 3 points at Shiva Boys: Shiva Boys 1 - 2 Vessigny

Vessigny become the first team to steal any points at Shiva Grounds and register their first victory of the 2009 campaign in the process with a 2-1 victory over Shiva Boys.

Andrew Samuel was on target for Shiva Boys, but he was outgunned by Vessigny's goalscorers, Gherelle Pantin and Terrece Marshall.

Vessigny remain in 6th spot, while Shiva slip one spot and drop to 3rd.

Siparia get thrown right back into the spotlight on Saturday 19th September, when leage leaders, Naparima await them at Mannie Ramjohn.
