Forward Anton Gill of Carapichaima has made a superb start this season. After two matches, he has scored eight goals and he is not only the leading scorer in the Central Zone, but the overall leader in the BG T&T Secondary School Football League.

Gill netted five times in his team’s 5-1 opening win over Gasparillo and three on Wednesday against Waterloo. Carapichaima won that match 10-1.

Cordel Cato of St Anthony’s has the most goals, five, thus far in the North Zone, however, his team is tied on points, nine, with Queens Royal College (QRC). The Westmoorings Tigers have won three matches and lost one.

QRC has three wins and two losses from its five matches. Fatima is in control as it is the only unbeaten team in the zone. St Augustine’s Mikkel Collymore matches Cato’s tally with five of his own for the leader in the East Zone. The Green Machine is out front without a loss and its closest challenger is San Juan.

San Juan too has not lost a match but is on eight points, having drawn two matches and sealed two victories. No true leader has been determined in the Tobago Zone as venue and security problems have held up the competition in the sister isle.

Down South, the reigning national champion Naparima has a narrow lead over its competitors. St Benedict’s win on Wednesday against Siparia has moved them into second place, three points behind Naparima which is also the reigning zonal title-holder. Action in each of the five zones continue on Saturday.
