After running past Vessigny Secondary 1-0 at Skinner Park, San Fernando, yesterday, Shiva Boys Hindu College will face Presentation College San Fernando in the Coca Cola InterCol South Zone semis.

The margin of victory might have been narrow, but Shiva were in little danger of losing the match, unless Vessigny were able to force a spot-kick shootout and take their chances that way.

The Penal-based school dominated the opening exchanges in wet, muddy conditions, and sealed the match as early as the 21st minute, when Nathaniel Garcia beat Vessigny goalkeeper Terrance Lewis to reward his team for their early initiative.

Dane Williams, who controlled the ball and passed well all match long in midfield, controlled the ball in the middle of the park, and flicked on a pass for striker Nicholson Babb. His control was not perfect, but he eluded his marker anyway and lobbed on for Garcia to beat Lewis with his first touch.

Babb himself could have sent Shiva in leading 2-0 at the break, but he missed from close range. And in attack Vessigny did not trouble Shiva enough to make them rue the missed chance.

In the second half, Shiva had more opportunities, but still did not cash in. Seretse Edwards missed a header from six metres after Babb had touched on a right side cross by winger Khadeem Charles.

Babb also missed a golden chance as he slipped in the mud in the penalty area and was unable to get a good shot off.

Lewis kept Vessigny in the match to the end, stopping Judah Peters from a dangerous position, and twice denying Babb as he got two late chances at goal.

Pleasantville and Presentation's matchup was decided from the penalty spot, after the teams were locked 0-0 at the end of regulation play. Pres won 7-6 on penalties.
