Jaeel Jeffrey scored a second-half brace as Naparima, the defending South Zone champions trounced Vessigny  4-0 on Friday. This was in the second match of a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

Naparima, coming off a 3-1 loss to current zonal leader Presentation College was eager to get back to winning ways and held a 1-0 lead at the half, thanks to Adan Noel.

After the resumption, Akeem Humphrey made it 2-0 before Jeffrey added his double to complete Naparima’s second win in five matches, and its most convincing display to date, to move to seven points from five matches.

However, despite the victory, Naparima is still fourth on the seven-team table five points behind Presentation. But that situation could all change ahead of Wednesday’s final set of first round matches as Presentation faces a possible points deduction after breaching the competition rules.

On Match Day four of the SSFL, September 17, Presentation fielded a player against Naparima College who was supposed to be serving a one match suspension after receiving yellow cards in two previous consecutive matches against, Shiva Boys’ and Vessigny.

Presentation won the match 3-1, but is expected to see the result overturn into a 3-0 victory for Naparima Gerard Elliot, the SSFL’s assistant secretary said the matter will be heard by the Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday along with other matters that have been brought forward.

Another matter which will be discussed is the abandonment of the Central Zone match between Waterloo and Gasparillo East Secondary at Waterloo on Wednesday.

Carapichaima was leading host Waterloo 4-0 led by two goals from Shaquille Holder before the match was called off after 22 minutes.

This after Waterloo began the encounter with only eight players and were soon reduced to six due to injury to two of its players.

In Friday’s other South Zone matches, joint second placed teams, Shiva Boys’ and Pleasantville battled to a 1-1 draw at David Williams Recreation Ground while Princes Town West was also held to a 1-1 draw by cellar-placed St Benedict’s College in the first match at Marabella.
