The 12 clubs who will form the new T&T Premier Football League will each stand to benefit from a cash injection of a total of TT$2.64 million or TT$220,000 each which will be distributed over a four-month period from March to June 2023.

This proposal and the finalisation of the T&T Football Association’s (TTFA) constitutional reform are among a number of details to be finalised at an Emergency General Meeting (EGM) which is carded for next Saturday at the Home of Football in Balmain, Couva, by the TTFA members.

According to the source, at the EGM, the proposal of the $220,000 which will come from the combination of the T&T government via the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, the TTFA, and FIFA will see the clubs being provided with an initial sum of $70,000 to help offset their cost of preparing for the start of the season at the end of March followed by three injections of $50,000 for the months of April, May, and June.

The new league which is slated to begin on March 10, is expected to comprise local powerhouses and former multiple T&T Pro League winners W Connection, San Juan Jabloteh, T&T Defence Force, and Central FC as well as recent Ascension Tournament Football champions Terminix La Horquetta Rangers FC, Caledonia AIA, T&T Police, Point Fortin Civic Centre, Cunupia FC, AC Port-of-Spain, Club Sando and one newcomer in T&T Prisons, the winners of the T&T Super League Premier Division, the last time the tournament was held in 2019.

The FIFA-Normalisation-led TTFA will launch the long-awaited new T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain on Monday.

In a release from the TTFA, newly appointed TTPFL Chief Executive Officer Colin Wharfe stated he believes that the development of the League is moving in a positive and structured manner that should create excitement for fans, players, and stakeholders alike.

The release added: “The T&T Premier Football League team and I have been working to ensure that the foundation of this new enterprise is thorough and robust. We met with the clubs on Wednesday (February 1, 2023) and provided updates and engaged in productive dialogue to ensure everyone’s readiness to kick off on this new adventure, and these details will be announced to the public next week.”
