St. Ann’s Rangers Football Club will be represented by a Women’s Team in the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s League Football (WoLF) First Division North Zone when the season kicks off on the weekend.

It is the first time in the club’s 32-year history that a Women’s Team was formed and co-owner Richard Piper believes it’s something new for the St. Ann’s community to appreciate.

“It was always an intention of Rangers to become a part of women’s football,” he said.

“It has been a dream of Rangers to have a women’s arm at our club. And for the past two years I have been in talks with Jason Spence (now head coach of the team) but there was always the question of finance.”

Although still an under-budget today, Piper explained that Rangers have simply decided to “bite the bullet” and field a St. Ann’s Rangers Women’s Team this season.

Currently Rangers stand as only the second Pro League club, behind Defence Force, with a Women’s Team in the T&T Women’s League Football.

The 2012 season of WOLF was launched last Thursday followed by a march-past and exhibition games on Saturday at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium.

The official tournament will begin on Saturday 21 April with Rangers up against Step by Step from 4pm at the St. Joseph Convent Ground Port of Spain.
