Real Dimension will meet Petrotrin Women on Sunday as the Women’s League Football (Wolf) Competition kicks off at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya from 3 pm. Following the opening encounter, Defence Force will do battle with CAL San Juan Jabloteh from 5 pm at the same venue. Matches will be played in two divisions (First and Premier) every Sunday at various venues.

Wolf, which was launched last year as part of the legacy programme for the Fifa Under-17 Women’s World Cup, looked to be in turmoil when club coaches were left in the dark as to whether or not there would be a league this year. On hearing the news of the league however, technical director of women’s football in T&T and Under-17 women’s coach Even Pellerud expressed his pleasure that the league was going to run.

The Norwegian explained that if women’s football in T&T is to go anywhere, there needed to be a functioning league in place. “You cannot develop a consistent programme unless you have a high quality league in your country,” he said. Pellerud also said that he hoped the league could be improved upon within the next couple of years, particularly with the introduction of a longer season spanning eight to nine months.
