GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – Top national defender Charles Pollard has secured the Kashif & Shanghai football tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award along with other accolades after leading Pele FC to title success.

Pollard, the 35-year-old veteran who plays for Trinidad & Tobago Caledonia AIA, also picked up the finals MVP and Most Outstanding Defender honours for the popular tournament.

It was the second major club success for Pollard in the past three weeks.

In Thursday’s final, Whittingham’s seventh minute goal propelled Pele FC to the title.

On loan from the Linden side Silver Shatters, Whittington was on spot for a rebound from Guyana’s national goalkeeper Richie Richards and took his chance well.

Both teams missed penalties later in the game and Pele FC went on to secure the title.

Trinidad-based Gregory Richardson, who plays for Joe Public, was also in the Pele FC line-up.

In the third-place play-off, Topp XX, got two goals from Carey Harris and a strike from Kayode McKinnon (both players connected to Tobago United) to edge GDF 3-2 in the final.
