Trinidad and Tobago's National Under 15 girls team, coached by Rajesh Latchoo, began the CONCACAF Under 15 Championship in winning style on Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over Barbados at the Ed Bush Sports Complex in Cayman Islands.??

T&T got their goals from Point Fortin Civic Centre defender Shenieka Paul in the 16th minute, midfielder Nia Honore of  Trincity Nationals in the 28th and  St Augustine FC forward Laurelle Theodore in the 51st and 54th minutes.

The result was particularly pleasing for the team which was playing its first international game and competitive fixture at the CONCACAF level.

“We started well with the goals in the first half and I’m really pleased with the way the girls took on the responsibility and completed their first win on the international stage,” Latchoo told TTFA Media.

“We entered the tournament with some challenges as the full squad was not able to assemble in the Cayman Islands but these girls have sacrificed and have worked hard over the past few months so they came here wanting to succeed. They demonstrated that on the field,” he added.

T&T will next face Bermuda on Friday at 5:30pm at the Ed Bush Sports Complex and Latchoo expects a tougher challenge.

“We are taking it one game at a time. I expect Bermuda to be a tougher opponent but our girls will stay focused and go after another positive result,” Latchoo ended.

The other three games played on Wednesday saw Cayman Islands defeating British Virgin Islands 5-0, Bahamas defeating Curacao  3-0 and Honduras edging Bermuda 1-0.
