The Under 17 Soca Princesses will begin a live-in training camp at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya on Friday which will last until the end of their Fifa Under 17 Women’s World Cup campaign.

Technical Director of Women’s Football in T&T Even Pellerud said that he had high expectations of the camp, which will bring together approximately 28 players to prepare for the tournament in T&T, lasting from September 5-25.

In his usually enthusiastic manner, Pellerud explained: “I am very excited about this camp. We are going to train a lot and I think it will really benefit the team.”

The Norwegian explained that one of its objectives would be to get the foreign-based players blended with their local counterparts while working on all aspects of their game.

The former Canadian coach said that since his players were not the biggest or the tallest, there was a need for them to develop their muscles to the point where they could be competitive against the rest of the world.

With just over two months to go before the start of the tournament, Pellerud is confident his team can perform. “I have never been pessimistic. I am always optimistic,” he said.

As it relates to cutting his squad, Pellerud shared that he is not focused on that task just yet. “I am not even thinking that way yet. There’s going to be a long process before deciding who goes to the World Cup.”
