Jasmine Sampson and Jo-Marie Lewis scored second half goals for the T&T Under-17 Soca Princesses, as they secured a 2-1 victory against Venezuela on Monday.
The match was the first of two friendly internationals being played in Venezuela ahead of the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup, which kicks off on September 25 here in T&T.
The Even Pellerud coached side went into the game after a six-hour bus trip from Caracas to Puerto La Cruz and had insufficient time to engage in a training session.
But Pellerud explained he was still satisfied with the spirited display by the T&T team. The hosts took the lead in the first half, but Sampson headed in an equalizer in the second half from a Khadidra Debesette corner.
T&T then went ahead through forward Lewis who, according to Pellerud, caused all kinds of problems for the Venezuelan defence according to Pellerud.
Lewis got the winner close to the end after latching on to a through ball from Sampson. “We deservedly won the game but the extensive trip was very exhausting for our players,” said Pellerud.
“Overall I was pleased with the efforts and the spirit with which we played.
We came from a goal down and take control of the match and this is what I am impressed with as we look ahead to facing Chile in the first match in Port of Spain on September 5.”

Kennya Cordner and Tasha St Louis scored a goal each that helped guide the T&T Senior Women’s football team to a 2-1 victory over its U-17 counterparts at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya yesterday.
The match was a friendly between the two national sides, which are preparing for the Fifa U-17s tournament which takes place from September 5-25 and the and Women’s Gold Cup in October respectively.
The U-17s drew first blood in as early as the second minute through a brilliant through ball by right winger, Kayla Taylor, who found Nykosi Simmons just in front the far left post.
Simmons easily nudged the ball inside the net, beating senior team keeper, Kimika Forbes, who could do nothing to save it.
Three minutes later, Cordner, who would later miss many similar opportunities in the match, was offered a shot by skipper Maylee Attin-Johnson, who picked the forward out just inside the box, but Cordner alone with, with U-17 keeper, Linfah Jones, was unable to find the back of the net.
In the 18th minute, Taylor, almost got her name on the scorecard, blasting a low hard shot from the top of the 18 yard box, but she found keeper, Kimika Forbes, who made a comfortable save.
Eight minutes later, Cordner, got the equaliser for her side, after Attin-Johnson, thread her way through the opposition defence, but her shot hit the bar.
The rebound however, found Cordner, who made no mistake, and headed the ball over the head of Jones to earn herself a much deserved goal.
Cordner, almost had another, in the 43rd, but she was denied by Jones, who made a great save, diving to her left.
Five minutes into the second half, St Louis scored the winner for the seniors, collecting the ball inside the far left of the box, and blasting it into the opposite corner.
